While Ryan Gosling was posing with his sister Mandi on the red carpet, his partner Eva Mendes was not in sight.

On Instagram last year during the Barbie press tour, Mendes replied to a comment on one of her posts about why we don’t see the private couple making red carpet appearances together.

“We don’t do those things together,” Mendes explained to one fan who asked if she would be joining her beau at a premiere.

“Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.”

Beneath the post, which was a video from her and Gosling’s 2012 film The Place Beyond the Pines Mendes clarified the pair had been on a red carpet together in the past.

“Oh, wait—for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’—we were only on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.”
