ARIA Award-winning singer dies at 55


Russian-Australian singer Zulya Kamalova has died at the age of 55, it has been confirmed.

Music producer Alexander Cheparukhin confirmed the sad news on Facebook and shared a touching tribute to the late musician, who died following a cancer battle,

”Zulya left us today, shortly after her 55th birthday. All her last hour with her were her daughter Zifa and husband Andrew,” he wrote, with a rough translation reading.

Touching on her cancer battle, he wrote: ”I last spoke to her was early last week. She knew that her days were numbered, but she did not lose hope for a miracle.”

“She was grateful to all of us who helped her to give people beautiful songs.”

He added: “Cannot imagine a world without her voice. Zulya was a very good, bright, sincere and beautiful person.”

He finished: “Long live her voice, a bright memory.”

in a sad post shortly before her death, Kamalova wrote: “These days I oscillate (sic) between hope and despair. But I try to focus on joy, good memories and lovely times.”

“Be it, traveling in Europe, catching up with friends, enjoying the times that I have left. Not so much left I’m afraid. So let’s concentrate on love.”

Last month, she thanked followers and friends for their support and said: ”It’s not quite clear what the path forward is for me. After I resolve present complications I am not sure if I can continue chemotherapy at the same rate.”

“Mainstream oncology only has palliative solutions for stage 4 cancer. However, there are many stories of recovery when people tried combined approaches. I focus on those and with your support and love I have a renewed sense of purpose and determination.”

Kamalova released six albums throughout her career and won an ARIA award for Best World Music Album for 3 Nights in 2007.
