Florence Pugh condemns ‘bullying’ that plagued her love life


Florence Pugh has candidly discussed the struggles of navigating a relationship in the spotlight,

The actress opened up about her highly-publicised and controversial relationship with fellow A-lister Zach Braffwho she dated from 2019 until 2020.

Sharing a 21-year age gap, the pair underwent intense scrutinywhich became so overwhelming that Pugh was forced to disable her comment section on social media.

Speaking with British Voguethe star said she initially spoke out against the backlash to protect her loved ones.

“I had to be public in the past because people were bullying me and bullying my partner,” Pugh said of Braff.

“Mine and Zach’s relationship was actually quite private until it was nasty, and I could see the toll that it was taking on him and us and our families. And that’s when I spoke out.”

In 2020, the don’t worry darling The actress shared a video condemning the bullying that followed an innocent birthday post she shared in Braff’s honor.

“Within about eight minutes of the photo being posted, I had about 70 per cent of the comments hurling abuse and being horrid – basically bullying someone on my page,” she said in the clip.

“It is the first time in my entire Instagram life that I’ve had to turn off the comments on my page.

“I am 24 years old. I do not need you to tell me who I should and should not love, and I would never in my life tell anyone who they can and cannot love. It is not your place.”

“It’s not nice knowing that people are saying the worst things I’ve ever read about someone that I love,” she tells British Vogue of the decision to speak out.

“So that was necessary. I needed to talk about it.”

Pugh and Braff parted ways in 2022, and the actress confirmed the news in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar,

“We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on,” she said at the time.
