halle berry has cleared up a decades-long rumor about her Oscar winning role in Monster Ball opposite Billy Bob Thornton.
The 2001 movie chronicles the love story between grieving widow Leticia Musgrove (Berry) and corrections officer Hank Grotowski (Thornton) and their torrid relationship.
Berry told Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast she wanted to clear up the rumor that she and Thornton had sex for real while filming an explicit scene for the movie.

“We had a very explicit sex scene,” Berry said. ”You can’t just be a good actor, and you can’t just make that s–t look real.”
At the time Thornton was married to Angelina Jolie.

“He had a wife, so, you know, all respect,” Berry said. “I know Angie and she ain’t signing off on that s– – t. I’m a girls girl. I’ll do a lot of things, but I’m not gonna sleep with your man.”
Thornton has also publicly denied the rumor.

Thornton and Jolie were married from 2000 until 2003 and reportedly wore vials of each other’s blood in necklaces throughout their relationship.
The Thornton rumor isn’t the only one Berry cleared up. Berry also denied hooking up with Things We Lost in the Fire co-star Benicio del Toro.
Berry spoke of “a wrestler” who claimed to have slept with her, saying the rumor left her feeling “violated.”

“I’ve been married enough times, you don’t have to add on things to me that have happened,” Berry joked.
“Just pick from the ones that are there.

Berry has been married three times: to David Justice from 1993 until 1997, Eric Benet from 2001 until 2005 and Olivier Martinez from 2013 until 2016
She has two children, Nahla Ariela Aubry, 16, from her relationship with Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo-Robert Martinez, 11, from her marriage to Martinez.
Berry also denied dating Jungle Fever director Spike Lee and Boomerang co-star Eddie Murphy.
Berry admitted she avoided media interviews for 10 years due to the way she was being represented including her “bad marriages.”
“That’s what everybody wanted to talk to me about,” she said.
“These podcasts have revolutionized everything, they have given us back the power,” Berry added.
She also cleared up a rumor that she was born Maria Halle and changed her name to Halle Berry for her career. She said a doctor wrote her name backwards and it was later corrected.
Her full name is Halle Maria Berry.
