Producer praises star after 12-year feud


Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre can’t help but admire Charlie Sheendespite their 12-year-long feud,

The pair have reunited on Lorre’s new show Bookieswith Lorre’s mind immediately turning to Sheen when they needed a real Hollywood star with experience to play a high-roller in season one.

The show follows veteran Los Angeles bookie Danny, played by Sebastian Maniscalco, who is struggling with the potential legalization of sports gambling in California threatening to end his business.

Now Sheen is returning to season two, continuing to play an exaggerated version of himself, and Lorre is singing his praises.

“We had a wonderful relationship for over eight years on Two and a Half MenAnd then things happened,” the producer told. People “And so to find our way back to having that friendship again, and I’m a big admirer of his work, I always have been. It’s never been about the work. The work is impeccable.”

”He’s the real deal. It was meaningful,” the 72-year-old continued. “It was really meaningful to work again, and have fun. And yes, he was more than happy to make fun of himself. He’s able to step outside and look at his persona as it was and make fun of it. This shows a lot of courage.”

Inside feud that tore Two and a Half Men production apart

The pair’s falling out first occurred when Sheen had targeted Lorre during a rant in which he called him “clown”, “a stupid, stupid man” and used anti-Semitic insults.

Sheen was at the time struggling with his drug and alcohol addiction, which also led him to rant about bizarre topics like “winning” and having “tiger’s blood.”

In an interview after getting sober, he compared the period to “alien or demonic possession.”

“It feels awful. I can’t sit there and lie to you,” he said of the past in a 2019 interview with Loose Women “Some of it is very surreal. To this day, I am not sure how I created such chaos and wound up in that headspace.

He began his sobriety journey in 2017, after which he apologized publicly for the debacle. One instance was in February 2021, when he told Yahoo! Entertainment“There was 55 different ways for me to handle that situation, and I chose number 56 … It was desperately juvenile.”

Lorre’s affection for him, however, didn’t wane, with the previously embattled actor being Lorre’s first pick for Bookies in 2023, where they put aside their differences.

“It should be Charlie,” he recalled considering the 59-year-old actor to Variety“I remember Charlie was very much engaged in sports betting and he would tell me stories about it all the time. You know, when things were good.”

Though he was “nervous” about the reunion, Lorre told Variety“Almost as soon as we started talking, I remembered, we were friends once… And that friendship just suddenly seemed to be there again.”

“I don’t want to be too mawkish about it, but it was healing. And he was also totally game to make fun of himself. When he came to the table read of that episode, I walked up, and we hugged. It was just great.”
