When four young misfits stumbled upon an ancient map and embarked on a pirate treasure quest, a big-screen hit was born.

The Gooniesreleased in 1985, followed a motley crew of kids from the ‘Goon Docks’ (hence the name) as they pursued the booty of One-Eyed Willy and dodged criminals along the way.

The movie launched the careers of many of its young stars, some of whom are still big-name actors to this day – but would any of them return for a reboot?

According to The Sunan inside source has claimed a reboot has been “given the green light to go ahead” after being “talked about for a long time”.

“The plan is to start developing the ideas for the follow up next summer (June to August in the Northern Hemisphere), with a possible release date of 2026 or 2027,” the unnamed inside source told the outlet.

It’s been reported that it is “likely” some of the original’s bigger names would return for the reboot, so, let’s see what the cast has been up to since. The Goonies‘ premiere.
