In 2021, Christina Applegate told the world she’d been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic disease of the central nervous system.
Fans feared she’d disappear from the spotlight in light of the news, but instead she’s spent the last three years using her platform to raise awareness of MS by honestly sharing her own symptoms and experiences.
“With the disease of MS, it’s never a good day,” she said in a 2023 interview.
“You just have little sh–y days. People are like, ‘Well, why don’t you take more showers?’ Well, because getting in the shower is frightening.”
”You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle. Especially because I have a glass shower. It’s frightening to me to get in there.
“There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives, that I took for granted.”
But she’s never shied away from being honest about the disease, or attending awards shows with a cane, changing the game for other actors living with a disability.
